WE DID IT! travelling from Lands End to John O'Groats in 25 hours 41 minutes powered solely by electric in the BMW i3 we beat the previous world record by 2 hours and 5 minutes!
Simon Summerby-Bent (Colliers International) along with Nigel Freshman (Smooth Radio Breakfast Presenter) & Richard Dean (Rybrook BMW Warwick) are setting off to conquer the famous Lands End to John O’Groats challenge. They’re attempting to set two new World Records for fastest time travelled between the two landmarks and the shortest charging time in an electric car – The impressive BMW i3!
Having become an early adopter of electric cars, Simon wanted to promote the capabilities of the BMW i3 for comfortable, economic and environmentally friendly travel that was not limited to short journeys.
Following the death of his Mother Rosie last November after a 20 year battle with a brain tumour, Simon was looking for a challenge that would continue the fundraising legacy of this remarkable lady.
Inspired to look for a challenge to break a World Record by his 9 year old son Flynns’ love of his annual stocking filler of the Guinness Book of World Records, Simon approached Rybrook BMW Warwick with the idea to set the two world records in question. With Rybrook BMW on board Simon was determined to maximise the fundraising opportunity and is delighted to have teamed up with Nigel Freshman and Smooth Radio to promote this challenge in fundraising for our chosen charities; The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Whizz Kidz and Global’s Make Some Noise. The 886 mile journey started in Lands End on Sunday 31st of July and was completed on Monday 1st August.
