Just as the Winter weather looms drivers are already planning ahead by preparing their vehicles for the possibility of severe weather.
In a recent test to find the difference in performance between Winter and Summer tyres within severe weather, a new Mercedes Benz C Class Estate put the rubber to the test on an ice rink organized by Tyre Safe.
The New Mercedes started with a braking test from 15mph to 0, resulting in the C Class stopping in 7.01 metres compared with 9.75 metres wearing the Summer tyres.
After the braking, a corner test was carried out whereby the Mercedes (suffering from a high understeer) would have to turn a steep corner. Not surprisingly the new car lost grip on the ice with the Summer Tyres meaning the vehicle was unable to complete the maneuver. The Winter tyres ensured a safe complete drive around the curved wall of cones and proved to be much more capable of severe ‘road’ conditions.
It is no wonder that more and more people are opting for a tyre change when the weather turns, and as drivers and passengers we should all air on the side of caution and drive as safely as possible when it comes to severe weather conditions.
