BMW 5 Series Saloon
Thirty-eight years after the launch of the first BMW 5 Series, the new, sixth generation 5 Series Saloon has arrived. In a former guise Rybrook was involved in the launch of the first BMW 5 Series having worked with the BMW brand for 40 years.
With strong contour lines sweeping the length of the car, deep bumpers, a long bonnet and defined wheel arches, the new 5 conveys a muscular yet elegant presence. It also has the longest wheelbase in its class so it offers more knee room for rear passengers and a greater feeling of space.
With Class-leading performance Driving dynamics, performance and handling were clearly at the top of the engineers' priorities. The engine line-up consists of seven fuel-efficient powerplants, including, for the first time, the powerful six-cylinder 535i. While capable of zero to 62mph in 6.0 seconds, the 535i also achieves 33.2mpg and CO2 emissions of just 199g/km.
Higher standard specification
The new 5 features a standard specification notably enhanced over its predecessor. All models come with soft-grain Dakota leather upholstery, BMW Professional Radio and Bluetooth telephone preparation. Six- and eight-cylinder engine derivatives also benefit from USB audio interface and Ambient lighting, while the 550i features eight-speed automatic transmission for virtually imperceptible, yet swift, gear changes. The new 5 also offers a wealth of optional equipment to further enhance safety, comfort and enjoyment. This includes Park Assist, the remarkable self-park system, and Night Vision with pedestrian recognition.BMW EfficientDynamics technologies Equally impressive is the extensive portfolio of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies featured as standard; these lower emissions and improve performance across the range. Brake Energy Regeneration, for example, recharges the battery during braking or coasting, using energy that would otherwise be wasted.
